Luigi Asprino
Professore/ssa Associato/aBiografia
I’m an Associate Professor at the Università Telematica San Raffaele, where I teach on the Master’s degree programme in Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. I obtained my master’s degree in computer engineering at the Sapienza University of Rome in 2014. I developed my master’s thesis under the supervision of Professor Giuseppe De Giacomo, in the scope of service integration. A few months later, I joined the Institute of Cognitive Science and Technology of the CNR in Rome as a junior research fellow. In 2015 I obtained a doctoral scholarship at the University of Bologna and I continued my research on ontologies, empirical semantics and Semantic Web applied at the social robotics domain under the supervision of Prof. Paolo Ciancarini and Prof. Valentina Presutti. I have successfully defended my PhD in 2019. In 2018, I have been a visiting student at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam under the supervision of Prof. Frank van Harmelen. From 2020 to 2025, I joined the University of Bologna as Assistant Professor (RTDa), where I participated in the SPICE and FAIR projects as a task leader. In 2025, my research project on endowing artificial agents with common sense knowledge was selected in an open call for funding projects submitted by young researchers. In 2025, I joined the Università Telematica San Raffaele as an Associate Professor. I have also served the scientific community by co-organizing international research events, participating in multiple conference and workshop program committees, and reviewing papers for international journals, conferences and workshops. I have coauthored scientific papers for international journals, such as ACM-TOIT, IEEE Access, ACM-JOCCH and JoWS, and international conferences including IJCAI and ISWC. I have collaborated on the design and development of multiple ontologies, knowledge graphs and open-source software frameworks (see dedicated sections below). Notably, I’m one of the main designers of SPARQL Anything, a tool that uses a unique data schema to allow users to query non-RDF resources as if they are RDF.
